About Us

The Portland Area Residents Association began in 1999 as a group of local residents concerned with the increased number of all-ages parties, noisy nightclubs, lack of permit parking, and other community issues.  With the then-Councillor Olivia Chow as a frequent guest and staunch supporter we held ‘town-hall meetings’ burgeoning to 250 neighbours…when necessary we were joined by Police personnel, department heads of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and local business owners.

Today we are an umbrella group over more than 3000 neighbours and members of the association.  Since 2010 our efforts have primarily been to preserve the historic look of the area from Front to Queen West, from Spadina to Bathurst – doing our best to limit the condo heights and densities to buildings that fit well with our little community.
